About ‘Stronghold Room’

I installed the curtains at the 40 anti-aircraft gun port of Nangan 53 stronghold, replaced the space and imagination between the inside and outside.

There is a picture of the target on the top of the shooting port. Imagine the state of military and civilian joined operations and national combat readiness. Facing the scenery outside the shooting port is a kind of trembling threat, and the privacy of the curtain makes the shooting tasks, areas and distances to have a temporary escape.

Open the curtains, there is a picture of the target painted on the top of the scene, which belongs to the scenery of the past. The shooting port is changing like a movie screen (4:3, 3:2, 16:9), and the scenery outside the shooting port could not change much. , while the state of mind goes back and forth between the past and the present.

Message in Bottle

I use the Matsu Daily (old media) as a handwritten paper, which contains the seeds of the exotic plant ” White Popinac”, which is native to South America and it is extremely exclusive and has no natural enemies. It was deliberately introduced and cultivated during the war period as a means of afforestation. At the present day, it makes a great threat to the ecology of Matsu.

The contents of the letter in the bottle are carried by handwritten paper, and the public is invited to write a letter in a bottle to the unknown in the exhibition .

A message in a bottle is a form of message delivery, which is put into an airtight container into the ocean to deliver the message to an unknown person. In the past, the message recipient of the message in a bottle did not have a specific object, and the message may flow with the ocean current forever. Now that the media information is developed, we can predict the weather, tides, walrus… There is no other here, and the content of the letter is no longer an objectless romance or a nameless, for which no existence is responsible… After picking it up The object can be to extend this plan (to make the event happen) or to stop and plant it (White Popinac), and the unknown letter in a bottle may bloom into a tree somewhere.

The shutter island allows people to have relative inner time to face the infinity of their own thoughts. The delivery time of the letter is not immediate, and it is not in the read status like the social software in the current smart phone, and the content of the letter is not informational, it is produced real emotion through internalized thinking.

Message in Bottle is a powerless cycle, between politics and poetry, that will eventually return to the unknown of the letter in a bottle.

It is said Matsu snowing

Styrofoam lay quietly in the indentation where it could be seen but not picked up, because the north wind blew up the scattered pieces of Styrofoam. Imaging the first snowing.

Those Styrofoam that have been repeatedly brushed by waves and washed into a round shape over time, Styrofoam blocks that are strangled by marine fishery nylon ropes and fishing nets, and unnatural Styrofoam that can be used as wave-absorbing blocks. I pieced together the sea-waste Styrofoam to create my view of Matsu indentation, which is a transition between natural and unnatural viewing.

Poem in Agave sisalana

Tequila, also known as sisal hemp, is a common battlefield vegetation plant in Matsu. As a defensive weapon for marines and air defense generals, it often appears near the stronghold and cliffs. Combined with the poem by the poet Mei Yu “Yirgacheffe’s stronghold” , engraved sensual poems on the relatively sharp agarwood plant, in a form of word of mouth of the islanders, “it is said that there are poems about the past on the agave…”, evoking the connection between this plant and the island, There is agave (battlefield memory), poetry (artistic, literary) everywhere, just waiting for the spectator to discover it.
